OSCE and Stability Pact Co-ordinator in Yugoslavia sign agreement on co-operation
BELGRADE 20 November 2001
BELGRADE, 20 November 2001 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), Stefano Sannino, and the National Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe of the FRY, Milan Pajevic, have today signed a memorandum on co-operation.
"The signing of this memorandum by the OSCE Mission to the FRY and the National Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact is the formalization of co-operation that is already ongoing, with the purpose of making sure that similar projects and activities undertaken by the two parties are co-ordinated as much as possible and even merged, so as to avoid the waste of resources and energy", said the Head of the OSCE Mission to the FRY, Mr. Sannino.
"The mandate of the OSCE Mission offers numerous possibilities to help the FRY Stability Pact Co-ordinator with the implementation of its programme. We have already had various examples of this kind of co-operation, such as in the field of trafficking of human beings, the strengthening of parliamentary institutions and the destruction of surplus small arms and light weapons", Mr. Sannino said.
Joint efforts will be achieved through frequent contacts between OSCE staff and the Yugoslav representatives for each of the three Working Tables of the Stability Pact, as well as through the organization of monthly meetings. Other international governmental organizations based in the FRY are welcome to join to this memorandum.
