BELGRADE 29 September 2006
BELGRADE, 29 September 2006 - Building the management and leadership capacity of senior police managers and enhancing regional law enforcement co-operation were the aims of a regional training course that concluded in Palic today.
The five-day event, organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the South-East Europe Police Chiefs Association under a grant from the Canadian International Development Agency, brought together senior police staff from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia
"The OSCE Mission supports the development of regional training initiatives for senior police managers in South-Eastern Europe as a means to foster a regional approach to combating transnational organized crime, and to harmonize standards of democratic policing in the region," said Anthony Pahigian, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission.
"This was the first time our Mission organized a training course for police staff at a regional level. I am confident this will contribute to consolidating co-operation between the police services in South-Eastern Europe."
In November 2005, the OSCE Mission to Serbia organized in Belgrade a regional conference on police training.
