OSCE Belgrade Mission hosts meeting on institutional response to terrorism

BELGRADE, 29 March 2006 - Ways institutions can respond to terrorism is the focus of a meeting of representatives of security sector institutions which began today in Vrsac.
Participants of the two-day event, organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, will review the competencies of various institutions charged with combating terrorism and the practices of using intelligence information in courts.
"The OSCE recognizes international terrorism to be a global challenge that must be confronted through the combined efforts of multilateral organizations and individual countries," said Douglas Wake, Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro.
"The OSCE Mission is pleased to be co-operating with partners in Serbia and Montenegro to help strengthen their capacity to effectively fight terrorism within a democratic framework and with respect for human rights."
Representatives of the State Union and the Serbian Parliament, the State Union Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human and Minority Rights, the Serbian Ministries of Interior and Justice, various State Union and republic-level Security and Intelligence Services, the Serbian Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime and other relevant institutions, as well as foreign and independent domestic experts are attending the event.
