OSCE Mission to Serbia supports efforts of Prosecutors and Police in combating smuggling and trafficking of migrants
The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Andrea Orizio, on 21 November 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic Public Prosecutor of Serbia on the donation of two vehicles and IT equipment to the Task Force on Migration.
The Task Force was established by the Ministry of Interior and the Republic Public Prosecution Office to investigate and prosecute cases of the smuggling and trafficking of migrants.
“The vehicles donated by the OSCE Mission to Serbia will enable the Task Force to begin its field operations and carry out on-site inspections to locations such as border crossing points, crime scenes, asylum centres, or detention facilities,” said Orizio. “The equipment will provide prosecutors and police investigators with the necessary resources to analyse the collected evidence in a shared priority sector.”
The Mission is also supporting regional co-operation among Serbian investigators and their peers from neighbouring countries in order to jointly fight organized crime groups that are smuggling and trafficking migrants across borders.
