Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission visits east Serbia

In his first visit to east Serbia (Petrovac na Mlavi, Bor, Zaječar, Negotin and Požarevac), Deputy Head of the Mission, Michael Uyehara, held meetings with local municipal, political, academic and religious representatives.
Additionally, Uyehara met with local and regional media representatives and with the Head of Zaječar Police District. Discussions focused on current issues affecting the region with particular reference to prospects for local economic development, the media privatization process, the way local municipalities are coping with security and social issues arising from the ongoing refugee crisis, and the status of Romanian and Vlach national minorities living in east Serbia. He assured interlocutors of the OSCE’s continued engagement in the region and support for the improvement in the situation of national minorities throughout Serbia.
