OSCE Mission to Serbia supports educational camp on environmental issues
Thanks to organizational and financial support from the OSCE Mission to Serbia, and in co-operation with the Vojvodina Environmental Movement, 16 youth leaders from high schools through southwest Serbia were able to take part in an educational camp on energy security and environmental democracy in the town of Sremski Karlovci 22-30 June.
In addition to providing general information about the environment and renewable energy resources, one of the camp’s main purposes was to help participants develop their skills in the field of good environmental governance and public participation in decision-making processes on environmental matters, which would thus enable them to be more engaged in environmental activism and play a greater role in the area of sustainable development within their communities.
The camp involved an interactive study course that took place at the Radulovački Eco Centre, one of the first environmentally friendly buildings for public use in Serbia, as well field trips to places such as the Kovilj Petrovaradin Swamp, a nature reserve located on the banks of the Danube River, and two study tours to Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad.
