Since 2002, the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, together with the OSCE field operations has been supporting the implementation of the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Environmental Decision-Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention), including through the establishment and support of Aarhus Centres in several countries of South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South Caucasus.
The 2019 Annual Meeting will gather Aarhus Centres representatives, National Focal Points to the Aarhus Convention, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations, international organizations and the OSCE field operations with the purpose to discuss and improve the involvement of OSCE-supported Aarhus Centres in fostering good environmental governance in various fields, share experiences and lessons learnt from their work as well as discuss future priorities.
This year, special attention will be focused on public participation in Environmental Impact Assessment and Aarhus Centres’ engagement in implementing the Espoo Convention and its Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment.
