OSCE media freedom representative condemns bomb attack in Montenegro, commends swift police action
VIENNA, 3 April 2018 – OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir today condemned the recent bomb attack outside a journalist’s house in Montenegro.
On 1 April, a bomb exploded in front of the house of Vijesti journalist Sead Sadiković in Bijelo Polje. Nobody was injured in the blast, but the explosion damaged a car parked in front of his house.
“I follow with concern this violent attack that could have had deadly consequences,” Désir stated. He welcomed the swift investigation conducted by local police, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals suspected of throwing the bomb.
According to the Montenegrin Journalists Association, Sadiković had received threats in the past. It is yet to be determined whether he was the intended target of this brutal attack.
“It is of utmost importance that the Montenegrin authorities shed light on the possible motives, and that all those involved are identified and brought to justice,” said Désir, adding that Sadiković and his family need adequate protection.
