PCUz runs a 4-day Model OSCE for university students of Uzbekistan
From 15 to 18 October 2024, 24 university students from Uzbekistan had the chance to learn about the OSCE and experience diplomatic negotiations first-hand as they simulated meetings of the OSCE Permanent Council as part of the 2024 Model OSCE.
The 4-day event, held in the PCUz office in Tashkent, brought together 15 women and 9 men aged between 18-25 from across Uzbekistan and representing 9 different universities.
Through interactive sessions, presentations, group activities and simulations, participants from different backgrounds were able to enhance their knowledge and skills while gaining insights into the workings of the OSCE and its institutions.
Ambassador Antti Karttunen opened the event on 15 October, stating: “It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to this Model OSCE event. I am particularly pleased to see so many young leaders who are ready to engage in meaningful dialogue and deepen their understanding of diplomacy, security, and cooperation.”
Over the course of the event, the 24 participants were familiarized with the work and structure of the OSCE through in-person and online presentations by various OSCE staff members from the PCUz, Secretariat, RFoM, HCNM and ODIHR.
In addition to this, OSCE POiD National Political Dialogue Officer Nigina Abdullaeva ran interactive sessions on tackling disinformation, co-operation and diplomatic negotiations, culminating in a full day simulation of an OSCE Permanent Council on the final day of the event.
The event was organized in co-operation with Children’s Rights Ombudsperson of Uzbekistan, who joined on the third day and engaged with the participants following a presentation.
