OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan supports open doors event at General Prosecutor's Office for International Anti-Corruption Day
Some 150 high-level officials from the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan, the Senate of the country’s parliament (the Oliy Majlis) and government agencies along with civil society and media representatives gathered for an open doors event on the premises of the General Prosecutor's Office in Tashkent on 18 December 2017 to mark International Anti-Corruption Day.
The event was jointly organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan and the General Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of the country’s Inter-Agency Commission on Combating Corruption.
A discussion held as part of the event focused on the achievements and priorities of Uzbekistan in supressing and preventing corruption in 2017.
“All of the OSCE’s 57 participating States have committed to fight against corruption in a number of politically binding Ministerial Council declarations. This is why our organization works tirelessly to assist the governments of participating States in designing a comprehensive approach to tackling this multi-faceted issue, with initiatives to share best practices regarding anti-corruption legislation, the integrity of the public sector and the prevention of corruption,” said the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan Ambassador John MacGregor in his opening remarks.
He went on to highlight the activities implemented as part of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator’s work to support combating and preventing corruption in the country.
During the event a media forum was also organized by the international press club as well as a national contest for students, supported by the Central Asian Regional Office of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
