OSCE provides equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan to support crime prevention among youth
On 8 August 2023, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (Office) handed over eight sets of computer equipment and uninterruptible power supplies to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Tajikistan. The equipment will be used to furnish the offices of educational psychologists, which will be created under MIA Departments throughout Tajikistan.
Offices of educational psychologists are a new method of crime prevention among children and adolescents, introduced on the basis of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the prevention of delinquency and crime among minors and youth." The Office supported the development of this law, and will continue to support the law enforcement sector to use new approaches and methods to prevent juvenile delinquency and youth crime.
The co-operation between the Office and the MIA is carried out based on a signed joint plan of action and within the framework of the Police Assistance project to support the police reform in Tajikistan. The Office will continue to support the activities of the MIA to establish partnerships between the police and the public and increase the capacity of police officers based on the principles of democratic policing with a special focus on working with the population.
