OSCE facilitates US Congressional Delegation visit to Regional Hazards Training Centre
On August 11, 2023, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (Office) facilitated a visit of a U.S. Congressional Delegation to the Regional Explosive Hazards Training Centre of the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan.
During the visit, Colonel Sulaimon Qodirzoda, Director of the Training Centre, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Centre's activities. The Delegation was also able to witness a practical demonstration of explosive ordinance recognition and was shown how demining equipment provided by the United States Army Central is used in explosive ordnance disposal training. Since 2013, the US Department of State has been supporting the development of technical cooperation mechanisms among Central Asian states, implemented by the OSCE, to address the threat of explosive hazards in the region.
The visit was organized within the framework of the Integrated Cooperation on Explosive Hazards programme, which provides targeted capacity development and technical assistance in reducing and responding to explosive hazards in Central Asia.
The OSCE has been working with Tajikistan since 2009 to support the progress of the country towards compliance with international disarmament conventions and reducing threats to security.
