OSCE continues strengthening capacities of customs officers in Kyrgyzstan
On 16 September 2021, sixteen Kyrgyz customs officers completed a four-day training course on profiling at the Leninskoe Training Center of the State Customs Service under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic. The event was organized with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.
The training course was led by an international expert from the United States. Participants gained an in-depth understanding of topics such as passenger profiling techniques, baggage and vehicle scanning, detection of drug trafficking in cargo and on the human body. They also enhanced their skills and knowledge of international best practices in the field.
Participants, in addition to theory, worked on practical skills by examining baggage and cargo for prohibited items, working with an X-ray television introscope, and searching for drugs on an airplane. Participants also had the opportunity to conduct real-time profiling of passengers and inspection of baggage during the arrival of a regular passenger flight at Manas International Airport.
The training is part of a series of capacity-building activities within the framework of the project of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek on building the capacity of customs officers of Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan”.
