OSCE supports regional training seminar on risk profiling in Central Asia
An OSCE-supported regional seminar on risk profiling for officers of border service educational institutions from Central Asian states concluded on 1 March 2018 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The three-day event was co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, the European Union-funded Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) Programme and the United States Embassy in Kazakhstan. Nine officers representing the educational institutions of border agencies from Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan were introduced to methodologies on teaching the fundamentals of risk profiling.
Instructors from Kazakhstan’s Border Service of the National Security Committee familiarized participants with risk analysis, operational psycho-diagnostics and interviewing methods. A set of recommendations were developed by participants regarding the future professional development at border guard training institutions in the area of risk profiling.
The seminar was held in connection with to the OSCE’s programme to promote risk profiling in Kazakhstan. The programme aims to support border security and management in order to promote safe and open borders and ensure the free and secure cross-border movement of persons and goods, as well as enhance the security of travel documents, counter terrorism and fight transnational organized crime, illegal migration and the trafficking of drugs, weapons and human beings.
