OSCE supports training workshop on use of cryptocurrencies and related risks in Kazakhstan
An OSCE-supported two-day training seminar for some 20 representatives of Kazakhstan’s National Bank on the use of cryptocurrencies concluded on 21 December 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The event focused on the technical aspects of the use of cryptocurrencies, the application of block-chain technology and the role of government entities to ensure effective regulation. The participants also discussed the challenges associated with the anonymous nature of cryptocurrency transactions, new possibilities for criminals to use the system and the need for better intergovernmental co-operation to combat money laundering and tax evasion.
The event is part of the Office’s multi-year efforts to promote good economic governance and combat money laundering and terrorism financing in Kazakhstan.
