OSCE PA President calls for peaceful solution to political crisis in Georgia

TBILISI, 23 November 2003 - The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Bruce George, currently in Tbilisi as Special Co-ordinator of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the observation of the Georgian parliamentary elections, appeals to all parties concerned to show restraint and not to resort to violence in the current political crisis.
"This crisis concerns the legitimacy of the State and cannot be solved by the force of arms. I would appeal to everyone to seek to resolve this crisis by peaceful means."
Mr. George emphasized that a free and fair election is the central pillar of a State's legitimacy and that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly continues to stand ready to support the development of the democratic process in Georgia.
