The second in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's Helsinki +40 seminar series was hosted by The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) on 18 November in Washington.
Held under the theme "Helsinki +40: Implications for the Transatlantic Relationship," the seminar featured addresses by six current and former OSCE PA presidents, U.S. lawmakers, diplomats and experts.
The need for an East-West bridge that inspired the creation of the OSCE remains acute today, but the capacities of OSCE institutions, particularly its parliamentary dimension, must be strengthened, and there must be renewed focus on adherence to the Organization’s core principles, the participants said.
Following the seminar on 19 November, several participants met with students at Georgetown University to discuss the OSCE's role in the world.
