Tajik border officers complete OSCE training-of-trainers course
Twenty one officers from the Tajik border troops, ranked from warrant officer to major and mainly coming from border detachments at the Tajik-Afghan and Tajik-Kyrgyz borders, successfully completed a three-week training-of-trainers course on 31 March 2017. The event was organized by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
The participants learned about developing curricula, programmes and lessons plans and how to conduct training sessions. They were introduced to public speaking and the principles of active learning. The course also covered the methodologies of delivery pathfinder (protection of green border), military topography and first-aid training. The use of appropriate technical equipment in preparing practical activities and delivering training was also discussed. The training was delivered by an international expert from Russia’s Border Guard Service and an experienced national expert.
“The Office in Tajikistan is helping to improve the sustainable capacity building of Tajik border troops by focusing on providing high-quality training and supportive technical equipment. This training of trainers will provide border guards with the necessary human and technical capacity to deliver the gained knowledge to other colleagues,” said Ambassador Tuula Yrjölä, Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. She added that the issue of border security is very important for Tajikistan and for the region as a whole.
The representative of the Tajik border troops, General Rajab Mahmadaliev, emphasized the importance of such trainings for Tajik border officers and of the continuous support provided by the OSCE.
The course is part of the OSCE Office’s patrol programming and leadership project, which is aimed at strengthening the capacities of Tajik and Afghan border security staff in detecting and preventing illegal cross-border movements.
