OSCE/ODIHR presents recommendations on October 2012 parliamentary elections in Ukraine
A team from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) visited Kyiv from 11 to 14 February 2013 to present the final report of the Election Observation Mission for the 28 October 2012 parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
The ODIHR team met with representatives from state authorities, political parties, civil society and the international community to discuss the report’s findings, as well as its recommendations on bringing election-related legislation and practice in line with OSCE commitments and other international standards.
The recommendations are aimed at improving the legal framework, increasing the transparency and impartiality of the election administration, and at addressing problems related to resolving electoral disputes, the campaign finance regime and media coverage of the electoral campaign, as well as at ensuring the integrity of the counting and tabulation of votes.
The team discussed how ODIHR at the request of the Ukrainian authorities could support efforts to implement the recommendations.
The presentation of the final report is in line with the commitments made by all OSCE participating States to follow up promptly on ODIHR election mission assessments and recommendations.
