The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), in cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, is organizing a workshop on parliamentary integrity and the Code of Conduct to strengthen ethical governance, transparency and accountability within the parliamentary framework.
The event will bring together members of the Assembly, governance experts and ODIHR specialists to engage in practical discussions on public ethics, oversight mechanisms and ODIHR’s Opinion on the Draft Code of Ethics for Members of Parliament, providing insights for refining the parliamentary integrity framework in North Macedonia.
The workshop aims to provide practical guidance on implementing codes of conduct, fostering public trust and reinforcing North Macedonia’s commitment to democratic principles.
This event is part of ODIHR’s Capitalizing on the Human Dimension Mandate to Advance Gender Equality (CHANGE) project. This project strengthens democratic institutions, policies, and social norms to advance gender equality, women's rights and safety. In North Macedonia, it has previously engaged with the Assembly through work on addressing violence against women in politics and the design of the parliamentary Gender Action Plan 2025–2027.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
A transparent and accountable parliamentary system is fundamental to democratic resilience and public trust. Establishing clear ethical standards, effective oversight mechanisms and gender-sensitive codes of conduct ensures that elected representatives uphold integrity, fairness and inclusivity in decision-making.
