Call for applications - Training on digital safety and security for Ukrainian Roma and pro-Roma human rights defenders

Participants will gain a better understanding of various harms and challenges in digital environments that may affect their human rights efforts and also explore practical resources and instruments in advancing digital safety in human rights work. More specifically, participating activists and advocates will learn about:
- Identifying digital threats: recognize various digital threats and their impact on safety;
- Secure communication: use encryption and tools to protect communications;
- Data protection: implement strong data protection practices, including encryption and secure storage;
- Safe browsing: adopt safe browsing habits and tools to maintain privacy online; and
- Incident response: establish protocols for responding to and recovering from digital security breaches.
The course will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation into Ukrainian. The costs of training materials, travel and full board accommodation are covered by ODIHR.
Participants
The training is based on interactive learning methods and requires full-time presence and active participation. Participants will be asked to bring their own devices e.g., personal computer, tablet. Participants should be aware that they will be unable to perform other work-related activities during the training sessions.
Participants will be chosen on a competitive basis having consideration of following criteria:
- Ukrainian Roma and pro-Roma civil society representatives, human rights defenders, activists and advocates working in Ukraine or any other OSCE participating State
- Proven experience and/or engagement with Ukrainian Roma, either in the country or in other OSCE participating States (e.g., working with Ukrainian Roma refugees)
- Strong motivation to learn about digital safety and security in human rights work to inform human rights efforts
- Relevance of the training for applicants’ current and potential future human rights work, in particular in respect to Roma communities
- Availability to attend the training in-person for its full duration on the mentioned dates
Application
Interested candidates should complete the application form in English or Ukrainian by 20 August 2024. ODIHR will strive to ensure a gender balance among participants whilst having consideration of the existing traveling limitations in, to and from Ukraine. ODIHR will engage with successful candidates only to inform about the outcome of the selection process.
