Training on good practices in migrant integration for Polish cities, Part II
When
Where
Organized by
The training is offered as part of the Academy on the Integration of Migrants and Refugees in Polish Cities. It covers the main aspects of migrant and refugee integration from the perspective of cities and with a strong emphasis on drawing on cities’ experiences and creating an opportunity for exchanging good practices when responding to challenges linked to inclusion and migrant and refugee integration. The training broadly draws on ODIHR’s Good Practices in Migrant Integration manual and will give the participants a chance to learn about good practices in other Polish cities and OSCE countries. The topics covered include:
- Civic and political integration;
- Freedom of speech versus disinformation and hate speech;
- Building an empathetic city, countering stereotypes and preventing discrimination;
- Informing the public about migration and integration issues, communication strategies, inclusive language and social media.
HOW
The course relies on interactive training methods and requires active contributions from all participants. Under the guidance of experienced trainers, the participants work with case studies, analyze good practices from other cities and OSCE countries and jointly develop their own plans of action to take home and implement. The course is delivered in Polish by trainers with proven gender and cultural sensitivity. Training materials and a networking dinner are funded by ODIHR. The training venue is provided by the Union of Polish Metropolises.
WHO
Up to 25 participants who represent municipal authorities in cities that are members of the Union of Polish Metropolises. Cities can nominate up to four mid-level practitioners from departments and units relevant to the integration of migrants and refugees, including departments of education, culture, social policy, units dealing with co-operation with non-governmental organizations, information policy, equal treatment activities and/or others (e.g., representatives of the Municipal Police, intercultural assistants or social workers). We particularly encourage nominations from cities which, until February 2022, had relatively small migrant and refugee populations and therefore less experience with their integration. We also welcome nominations of new employees from cities that are more experienced in the field of migrant and refugee integration.
APPLICATION
City authorities are invited to nominate up to four middle-level practitioners by contacting the Union of Polish Metropolises.
Participation in Part I is not a condition for participation in Part II.
