The workshop builds upon previous work with the Assembly of North Macedonia, conducted in 2019 and 2020. At this year’s workshop, MPs and staff will further develop their gender mainstreaming skills, but will also discuss how they can: a) improve gender sensitivity in law making; b) amend Rules of Procedures from a gender and diversity angle; and c) engage male MPs and women’s NGOs in parliamentary work, with a focus on parliamentary oversight. Background
North Macedonia, together with Albania and Montenegro, has been taking significant steps in institutionalizing gender sensitivity in the parliamentary structure, processes and policies. The Assembly of North Macedonia, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Skopje and ODIHR, conducted a gender audit in 2019 and approved its first Gender Action Plan for 2020-2021. Over the course of the last two years, the Assembly has taken all kind of measures, aiming at not just becoming a gender sensitive institution but overall to deliver for all women and men in the country.
