The 2021 NHRI Academy Follow-up Training aims to train senior and mid-level staff from Slovenia’s Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman on ways to:
- protect the rights of human rights defenders;
- promote the important role of human rights defenders in society;
- communicate human rights to the general public, state officials and other audiences.
The training follows the ODIHR and ENNHRI 2021 NHRI Academy, a flagship event involving participants from national human rights institutions (NHRIs) from across the OSCE region, including the Slovenian Ombudsman’s Office. The training will be tailored to the country’s national context and explore the role of the Office in working with, supporting and protecting the rights of human rights defenders.
This year, ODIHR is for the first time providing additional training support to selected NHRIs following the NHRI Academy.
The Academy’s long-term aims are:
- providing a platform for supporting continuing professional development of NHRI staff;
- supporting professional networking between NHRIs in the OSCE region, and between NHRIs, ODIHR, ENNHRI and other stakeholders and organizations.
