The Roma Leadership Academy “Nicolae Gheorghe” (RLANG) aims to strengthen democratic institutions by building the capacity of Roma and Sinti in elected and appointed positions, and those working in executive structures and civil society.
Participants will strengthen their knowledge and understanding on how to maximize their policy and decision-making leverage in order to benefit Roma at local, national and international levels.
The training academy will be held in English language. The gender balance principle will be given particular importance.
Who is the academy for
In terms of nationality, ODIHR considered Roma and Sinti applications from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain.
Candidates belong to one of the following categories, in this order of priority:
- Roma and Sinti individuals in elected positions and political appointees
- Roma and Sinti individuals working in executive structures, public administration and state institutions
- Aspiring political candidates on behalf of Roma and Sinti parties and organizations, or of mainstream parties, or standing as independent candidates
- Roma and Sinti civil society representatives actively involved in policy advocacy on behalf of Roma at a local, regional or national level
In addition, candidates belonging to the above categories also:
- Demonstrated interest in acquiring new skills, knowledge and experience in the areas of leadership, politics, policy-making, human rights, combating racism and discrimination, advocacy and policy dialogue
- Showed commitment to making best use of their positions in order to to maximize policy and decision-making outreach on behalf of Roma at local, national and international levels
Other requirements
- Candidates possess good command of English language
- Availability for the full duration of the training
Location
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the training takes place online.
Dates
The Roma Leadership Academy "Nicolae Gheorghe" starts on Friday, 20 November 2020.
The first training module takes place between 20 and 22 November, while the second is schedule between 4 and 6 December.
