Empowering Young Central Asian Women in the Energy Transition
The energy transition to more efficient and sustainable energy systems has the potential to empower women and provide them with a platform to be agents of change at both the local and national levels. This transition could be particularly beneficial to the economies of the five Central Asian states due to their high potential to harness renewable energy.
As the primary managers and users of energy in Central Asian households, women could play a leading role in this transition. However, women in this region face persistent barriers to entering energy-related careers due to multiple reasons, including gender stereotyping regarding the potential for women to access and thrive in a career in the energy sector.
The OSCE project on promoting women’s economic empowerment in the energy sector aims to address these barriers by helping young Central Asian women to understand the wealth of career opportunities that exist, build their confidence, and tap into their full potential as agents of change in the energy transition. To achieve this, the OSCE is hosting high-level roundtables, workshops, and onsite experiences at leading renewable energy facilities in Central Asia and is offering learning and internship programs to young women in the region.
Thanks to these activities, young Central Asian women connect with like-minded peers, female role models, and employers, and gain the skills and confidence to build their unique careers in the energy sector.
