ODIHR is organizing the third Young Women’s Political Academy (YWPA) as part of its award-winning CHANGE (“Capitalizing on the Human Dimension Mandate to Advance Gender Equality”) project. This is the first national edition of the Academy, which aims to improve the skills, knowledge and capacities of young women in politics or entering politics to strengthen their meaningful participation in elected public offices at all levels of decision-making, in line with OSCE commitments.
This Academy brings together up to 25 young women who aspire to, or are considering running in the country’s 2024 elections to set up a creative space for exchange and capacity building. The programme will provide insights into topics such as the democratic processes, women’s political participation and violence against women in politics. Participants will engage with peers in interactive skills-building sessions on leadership, communication, advocacy and campaigning, building alliances and networks, and safety and resilience, among other topics. Young women will have a chance to participate in a simulation exercise to test these skills in action. Alumnae of previous YWPAs and other prominent women politicians will share their experiences and lessons learnt with participants.
