Within the framework of the OSCE- GWNET Mentoring and Network Program on Empowering Central Asian Women in Renewable Energy, the OSCE organized a one-week study tour in Vienna for female Central Asian energy experts to gain some practical insights into the renewable energy transition.
The study tour included training courses in career development and project management in the energy sector and clean technologies as well as a series of meetings with international organizations, government officials and leading companies operating in the renewable energy sector. The tour was also an opportunity for the participants to meet in person, exchange personal experiences, and build a community of regional female leaders in the energy sector.
The week started with a working breakfast hosted by the OSCE Secretary General, Helga Maria Schmid and the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, Igli Hasani. Participants had the opportunity to share their stories and to explain challenges faced by Central Asian women working in the energy sector with the Permanent Representatives of the Central Asian and donor countries.
Other activities included a visit to Seestadt Aspern, Europe's largest urban development projects, a visit to the United Nations offices in Vienna including a meeting at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a female leadership training at the Climate Lab Vienna, a tour of the Spittelau waste incinerator, a meeting at ANDRITZ Hydro, one of the global leaders for hydraulic power generation.
The group also attended the Vienna Energy Club, a bi-annual gathering of energy experts to share their insights on current energy security and sustainability opportunities and trends in Central Asia, as well as the 5th Edition of the Vienna Energy Security Dialogue – a leading international forum organized by the OSCE in partnership with the World Energy Council Austria.
The study tour was organized within the framework of the OSCE project ‘Promoting women’s economic empowerment in the energy sector in Central Asia’.
