OSCE, NGO Environmental Movement Ozone raise awareness on waste management in Montenegrin schools
Raising awareness on waste management was the focus of the two workshops organised by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, in co-operation with the NGO Environmental Movement Ozone, on 17-18 October 2014 in Montenegro.
30 teachers from three primary schools in Podgorica, Niksic and Cetinje, were familiarised with the legislative framework and strategic documents in waste management area. They were also assisted in preparing the schools’ action plans for implementation and monitoring of activities on primary waste selection in schools. The action plans developed by teachers, will be implemented with the support of the OSCE Mission.
The OSCE Mission also organized a study visit to the Landfill and Recycling Centre in Podgorica, where the teachers could observe the process of waste selection.
Lia Magnaguagno, Head of the Democratization Programme expressed the hope that teachers would use all their potential to raise awareness and encourage students to take an active part in the recycling process, creative workshops and eco-bazars, which the OSCE provided financial and expert support for.
The workshops were organised within the programme ‘Education on Waste Management’, officially accredited by the National Council for Education.
