Students from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River took part in OSCE Mission to Moldova-supported Youth Summer School
A celebration to mark the end of a ten-day summer school for youth was held on 19 July 2015 in Molovata Noua, a town by the Dniester/Nistru River. Local officials and inhabitants from both banks of the river attended the event, as did the 80 participants of the summer school.
The summer school for youth and closing celebration were organized by the Eco-TIRAS International Association of River Keepers with support from the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
The event provided an opportunity for the students to showcase their activities and demonstrate what they had learned over the past ten days. During the summer school, students participated in workshops on topics ranging from the environment to democracy building and human rights issues. In particular, students were trained in climate change adaptation, decision-making processes and tolerance and non-discrimination.
The aim of the school is to build confidence between youth on both banks of the river and to strengthen their civic awareness. The Dniester/Nistru River celebration at the end of the summer school has been held since 2009 and has become a popular tradition for people on both banks of the river.
The OSCE Mission to Moldova supports the Youth Summer School and closing celebration as part of its project to build confidence through environmental activities.
