Lawyers discuss family law issues during second Human Rights Club meeting held by OSCE Mission to Moldova
On 10 July, the OSCE Mission to Moldova organized the second meeting this year of the Human Rights Club for lawyers from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River. The event was held at the Tiraspol office of the OSCE Mission to Moldova and brought together more than 40 lawyers.
During the event, participants discussed divorce and legal issues that people on both banks encounter. In particular, the discussions focused on the examination of divorce issues in the courts and the execution of court decisions on both banks.
“The meeting was of immense practical value to experts and participants alike. I was struck by the broad range of experiences and issues exchanged in the area of family law, in particular as regards the divorce process on both sides of the Dniester/Nistru River,” said Alla Poltaretskaya from the Centre for Innovation and Social Development. “All in all, we were able to identify a range of issues and practical ways to resolve them.”
This event was held as part of a year-long project that facilitates the exchange of experiences between lawyers from both banks and support for the development of civil society. Three more meetings of the Human Rights Club are planned for 2015, including two in Chisinau and one in Tiraspol.
Previous meetings of the Human Rights Club have focused on a variety of topics, including the effective rehabilitation of former detainees, assessment of property within civil and criminal cases, achieving gender equality in law and in practice, co-operation between lawyers and journalists in promoting human rights, increasing efforts to combat torture and matters relating to the guardianship of children.
