Use of Gender Sensitive Language in Public Administration
Within the process of the OSCE Mission's support to implementation and institutionalization of gender equality policies at all levels of governance in Serbia, the OSCE Mission engaged prominent national experts in the field of linguistics and gender to prepare the “Guide on Use of Gender Sensitive Language in Public Administration” in 2019.
The use of gender sensitive and non-discriminatory language in public administration powerfully reflects and influences attitudes, behaviors and perceptions of different social groups. This Guide is prepared as a “reader friendly” tool, offering all relevant recommendations and guidance to better use of gender fair and inclusive language. As such, the Guide should not constrain employees in public administration, including local self-governments, and impose on them a mandatory set of rules. Rather, it should encourage them to give due consideration to the issue of gender sensitivity and non-discrimination in their daily written and spoken communications. The publication is available in Serbian language only.
