OSCE Mission to Serbia supports further development of notary profession
The first assessment of the newly established notary system in Serbia was presented to more than 100 representatives of state institutions, courts, notarial profession, international community and academia in Belgrade on 29 June 2017 by the Chamber of Notaries with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
The notarial system was introduced in Serbia in September 2014 in line with the National Strategy for Judicial Reform as a measure to improve the efficiency of the judiciary and provide easier access to justice for Serbian citizens.
The assessment report precisely identifies the shortcomings and gaps in the implementation of the legal framework so far and provides guidance for the Chamber of Notaries and relevant decision-makers on possible future activities. The recommendations point out the need for the digitalization of the profession and continuous training.
“The OSCE Mission to Serbia will continue to support the development of this legal profession by facilitating initial, continuous and specialized training of notaries, their assistants and trainees,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Andrea Orizio.
The Mission will also assist the Notary Chamber to develop a permanent training programme in co-operation with the Judicial Academy in accordance with the National Strategy for Judiciary Reform 2013–2018 and the Action Plan for Chapter 23.
There are currently 165 notaries in Serbia who have competences in the fields of real estate, inheritance, family and commercial law.
