OSCE Mission in Kosovo supports training in investigative journalism
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo supported a ten-day training course on investigative reporting for fifteen TV, radio and print journalists, which concluded on 19 December 2011 in Prishtinë/Priština.
The course helped journalists develop practical investigative reporting skills including planning, and research. As part of the course each participant produced an investigative story.
“This course provided young journalists with basic guidance on how to conduct an investigation, ensure the factual accuracy of the story and present the information,” said Jared Hays, the Acting Director of the OSCE Mission’s Democratization Department. “With activities like this, we are seeking to help Kosovo media to develop their ‘watchdog’ function and reveal illegal practices for the benefit of the whole society.”
Jehona Zhitia, a journalist of the Radio Television of Kosovo, said: “Thanks to this course, I have learned how to work as part of an investigative team, how to confirm information, and finally how to produce a proper investigative story that could make a difference.”
The training course was delivered by the Kosovo Media Institute established by the OSCE in 2005 as a mid-career training centre for active journalists.
As a part of its mandate, the OSCE Mission supports the development of free, independent and professional media in Kosovo.
