OSCE Mission issues statement on broadcast media in Kosovo
PRISTINA 17 December 2004
PRISTINA, 17 December 2004 - The OSCE Mission in Kosovo, as Pillar III of the UN Mission in Kosovo, today issued the following statement:
"Prior to and during the March riots in Kosovo, RTK, TV21 and KTV committed a number of journalistic and editorial errors in their reporting. The Temporary Media Commissioner (TMC) issued a report examining their individual conduct according to the TMC Code of Conduct for Broadcast Media and offered certain remedial recommendations to each.
In this context, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo is pleased that RTK, TV21 and KTV have mutually agreed to settlements with the TMC. Each broadcaster will take necessary remedial actions in place of fines. Aware of the efforts and expertise invested in strengthening the capacities of these broadcast outlets, the OSCE Mission is encouraged that they have pledged to conduct themselves with more professionalism and responsibility to the public which they serve."
