OSCE Mission organizes visit to support transparent and open leadership in Kosovo
PRISTINA 20 October 2003
PRISTINA, 20 October 2003 - The OSCE Mission in Kosovo's Democratisation Department has arranged for a group of municipal information officers to visit their counterparts in two cities in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina over the next two days.
Their colleagues in Mostar and Sarajevo will show the four-member Kosovo delegation which methods - including websites, press conferences, municipal bulletins, etc. - they find useful to communicate with the public.
The study trip involves a visit by information officers from the municipalities of Peje/Pec, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Prizren and Prishtine/Pristina.
"Municipal structures in Kosovo should be open, transparent and responsive to the citizens that they serve," said Julien Collette, the Team Leader of the OSCE's Democratization Department in Mitrovice/Mitrovica.
"Municipal Information Officers, or Spokespersons, are often the first line of communication with the media, especially, which brings information to the public. Our Kosovo group will be able to exchange experiences and ideas with counterparts from another post-conflict situation," he added.
The participants will then invite colleagues from other Kosovo municipalities to share their experiences from Bosnia and Herzegovina, so that all of the province's municipalities can benefit from the exchange of experiences.
The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina has also pledged support to the project.
