Over 1.3 million voters registered for Kosovo's municipal elections
PRISTINA 11 September 2002
PRISTINA, 11 September 2002 - The Provisional Voters' List (PVL) for this year's municipal elections in Kosovo has surpassed 1.3 million voters.
This figure includes many who registered for the first time. In Kosovo the number of eligible voters is almost 1.2 million, while the total for Serbia proper and Montenegro stands at 109,000. These figures may change as some data remains to be processed.
In addition, a further 7,800 people have so far been deemed eligible to cast their vote by mail. The OSCE and the Election Complaints and Appeals sub-Commission (ECAC) continue to process additional information supplied by applicants which, if approved, will increase the total number of people who can vote on Election Day, 26 October.
A Confirmation and Challenges Period will run between 11 and 19 September. This procedure is designed to give eligible voters and organizations with an interest in the elections, such as the certified political entities, an opportunity to inspect the Voters' List and challenge the eligibility of individual voters. Voters inside Kosovo, as well as those in Serbia proper and Montenegro, will have an opportunity to verify their details on this provisional list and make limited corrections.
All challenges will be submitted to the ECAC for review.
