OSCE to host training workshops for women candidates in Kosovo elections

PRISTINA, 27 August 2001 (OSCE) - The OSCE is holding a series of workshops for women candidates for the Kosovo Assembly election. The sessions will discuss the role of women in politics and how they can contribute to democratic governance in Kosovo.
The workshops aim to familiarize future women candidates of political parties, coalitions and citizens' initiatives with the skills required to run an effective political campaign and hold office. Participants will be presented with topics such as the election process, governmental powers, the basics of campaigning, articulating goals, how to interact with the media, and raising awareness of gender-related issues.
The training workshops represent an opportunity for women in Kosovo to learn and practise skills that will increase effective interaction within political parties and with voters, while strengthening their contribution as decision-makers in both the political and social spheres of society.
Participants are nominated by their political parties and will be trained in each of the following regions on the following dates:
Media representatives are invited to attend a briefing session with the trainers, who will give an overview of the training programme.
