Kosovo print journalists to receive training in Austria
PRISTINA 3 November 2000
PRISTINA, 3 November 2000 - A group of eight print journalists from Koha Ditore, Zeri daily and weekly, Rilindja, Bota Sot, Kombi, Dita and Epoke e Re will be attending a practical training in Austria from 7 to 17 November. This training has been organized by the OSCE Media Affairs Department and the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The group is the latest in a long line of journalists being trained through the efforts of the OSCE. They will be working together with journalists from leading Austrian newspapers, such as Der Standard, Kurier, Wiener Zeitung and Profil. The goal of the training is to learn how modern newspapers work. The trainees will spend their time shadowing an Austrian counterpart - making interviews, researching stories and writing feature articles. They will also have the opportunity to learn about the organizational structure of a newspaper, including management and marketing techniques.
This is the third of the series of successful training the Training Section of the Independent Media Support Division in co-operation with the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first two trainings were dedicated to broadcast journalism in co-operation with ORF, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation.
To date nearly 500 journalists have received training through the efforts of the OSCE, both in Kosovo and abroad. Some of this has been on-site at radio stations and with individual newspaper journalists covering basic skills; the most recent training being on elections coverage of some form, while other current and planned courses will look at more advanced training.
The OSCE has its own team of professional journalist trainers who co-ordinate the efforts of international donors as well as providing direct training. The OSCE, as part of its institution building mandate, has placed great emphasis on training for journalists to ensure that Kosovo develops a democratic, qualified media sector.
