Women's concerns to be addressed in civil registration
PRISTINA 20 May 2000
PRISTINA, 20 May 2000 - The OSCE regular press briefing on civil and electoral registration will focus this week on women and the registration process.
OSCE field staff are finding that many women do not have all the documents they may need to prove residency to get on the electoral register. Some of those documents which are being accepted, such as bills, are made out in the name of the head of the household, who is usually a man. Other women wrongly believe their husbands can register for them. However, everyone must register in person.
The OSCE is encouraging the full participation of women in this registration process, as well as in the development of a civil society in Kosovo. During the press briefing, the OSCE wants to address some of the concerns that women may have about registration.
Time: 10:00 am Date: Tuesday, 23 May 2000 Place: 6th Floor conference room, OSCE Headquarters, Pristina
All media are invited to attend
