The year 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the Bolzano/Bozen Recommendations on National Minorities in Inter-State Relations.
To celebrate this milestone, the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities invited representatives of OSCE participating States, international organizations, experts and academics to a two-day event in Udine, Italy, organized together with Italy’s 2018 OSCE Chairmanship.
The anniversary event allowed for reflection on how States can effectively address political and legal concerns arising from national minorities in inter-State relations.
A closed expert round table on Sunday, 15 July brought together prominent scholars to consider major developments in the field.
A full-day conference followed on Monday, 16 July in which participants engaged in two high-level panels to discuss current challenges, lessons learned and good practices.
Launched in 2008, the Bolzano/Bozen Recommendations emphasize the importance of ensuring good neighbourly relations and reducing tensions involving national minorities within and across national boundaries.
