OSCE Mission holds human rights training for Georgian law enforcement officials

TBILISI, 12 September 2005 - Twenty law enforcement officials in Samtskhe-Javakheti started a three-day OSCE course today on international standards for human rights protection, including the rights of ethnic minorities.
Organized by the Mission to Georgia, the course aims to improve the capacity of judges, prosecutors, lawyers and police officers in the region, which is home to a large Armenian ethnic community.
Experts from Georgian NGOs and the Public Defender's Office are delivering the course, which also focuses on combating torture and ill-treatment.
The Mission is involved in a range of human rights initiatives and activities to help the Georgian Government improve the security and integration of ethnic minorities.
