OSCE holds a workshop for customs and licensing authorities with Mediterranean Partners on military and dual-use goods
A regional workshop organized by the OSCE to help combat the trafficking of strategic dual-use commodities and conventional weapons, including small arms and light weapons, started in Valletta, Malta on 24 January 2012. Representatives of customs agencies and licensing offices from Cyprus, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, and Tunisia are taking part in the three-day workshop.
The workshop on customs procedures and licensing aims to promote information sharing to ensure the effective processing of shipments across borders of conventional weapons, including small arms and light weapons, and commodities, which have been designated by their national authorities as “dual-use” or controlled goods.
It builds on the OSCE’s efforts to promote implementation in its participating States and Partners for Co-operation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as the OSCE Document on SALW and Border Security and Management Concept.
