OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir holds 19th Central Asia Media Conference on Open Journalism in Tashkent
VIENNA, 16 October 2017 - The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir will visit Tashkent from 17 to 19 October 2017 and open the 19th regional Central Asia Media Conference "Open Journalism in Central Asia". The Central Asia Media Conference takes place annually and provides a forum for discussion of issues pertinent to the freedom of expression and aids in the fulfilment of the OSCE commitments regarding media freedom in Central Asia.
The Representative will meet with senior government officials and representatives from civil society and the media to discuss media freedom issues in Uzbekistan specifically and the OSCE region in general.
During the two-day event, over 100 participants, including journalists, representatives from governments, civil society organizations and academia from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, along with Mongolia and several international experts, will discuss current media trends in Central Asia.
