The main objective of the 2020 OSCE Annual Police Experts Meeting (APEM) is to present and discuss challenges and provide examples of co-operation in police-media relations. A special focus will be on lessons learned and good practices in police-public relations through both traditional and social media network platforms.
The meeting will focus on the following topics, which are essential for an ethical, fair, safe and professional relationship between the police and the media:
- Organizational changes, and developments of skills and competencies of the police in public relations and media communications;
- Police and social media; opportunities and challenges;
- Police and the media during crisis situations and emergency incidents.
The event is intended for law enforcement experts and other criminal justice practitioners, OSCE delegations, journalists and other representatives of the media, representatives of regional and international organizations, academic researchers as well as civil society representatives from the OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation.
The main findings and outcomes of the meeting will be compiled in a report which will serve as a basis for further discussions on its topics at the national, regional and international levels and as guidance for the OSCE when developing and providing capacity-building and technical assistance to OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation.
