Press release, 15 March 2010: Land transport security and environmentally sustainable transport focus of OSCE meeting in Minsk
Background
The theme of this year's OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum is Promoting good governance at border crossings, improving the security of land transportation and facilitating international transport by road and rail in the OSCE region.
While the Forum process has so far predominantly focussed on road transport facilitation, issues affecting landlocked developing countries and good governance in customs and at border crossings (see links), the Second Preparatory Conference in Minsk will put a stronger focus on the other building blocks of the Forum's theme, namely railway transportation, transport security and the links between transport and the environment.
The Conference, which will gather together around 180 participants from different backgrounds, such as senior officials from the 56 OSCE participating States, representatives from international organizations, civil society and the academic and business community, is expected to provide substantial input to the Concluding Part of the Forum in Prague on 24-26 May 2010.
