Press release, 27 April 2009: OSCE Special Representative calls on States to combat exploitation in the agricultural sector
This technical seminar will analyze the experiences and lessons learned in cases of labour exploitation, in particular in the areas of identification, protection mechanisms, national co-ordination among the services or authorities, and prosecution of cases in the agricultural sector.
For this seminar, the Office of the Special Representative and Co-ordinator on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings will bring together authorities from the OSCE participating States working in functions dealing directly with this issue (such as representatives from labour inspection agencies, law enforcement, social services, immigration or prosecutors).
The seminar's overall goal is to gather expertise and enhance dialogue and information exchange among national authorities from the OSCE participating States. A background paper commissioned for this initiative will be disseminated prior to the event in order to offer a guiding tool for the discussions. The aim is to support and encourage the implementation of OSCE commitments, while providing a venue for exchanging information and networking.
