One of the most important challenges in combating trafficking is to correctly identify the scope of this horrendous crime.
The 6th Alliance Against Trafficking in Persons Conference on National Monitoring and Report Mechanisms to Address THB: the Role of National Rapporteurs, which takes place in Vienna, Austria, on 21 May 2007, aims to address that challenge.
The Office of the Special Representative and Co-ordinator on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings has brought together those in the front line responsible for gathering information in their home countries. They are national rapporteurs or members of equivalent mechanisms who will look at concrete examples of their work and examine existing reporting practices in the participating States.
The conference will examine the tasks of gathering and analyzing information, the role played by such mechanisms, as well as the challenges at national level concerning trafficking in human beings.
