This initiative is co-organized in close co-operation with the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA).
The objective of the special event is to encourage input and recommendations from the private sector and business community on how to take action against trafficking in human beings. Every year, millions of men, women and children become victims of trafficking in human beings and end up being sexually exploited and/or trapped into situations of labour exploitation. The problem can occur in any industry, yet is more frequently recognized in the agriculture, sex, construction, textile, and domestic/home care sectors.
Governments are recognizing the political and socio-economic implications of the problem and the importance to take greater action, yet the potential of c-ooperating with the business community has so far remained undervalued. The special event will therefore discuss the responsibilities and opportunities for the Private Sector to contribute to the fight against trafficking in human beings.
The special event will take place immediately prior to and on the occasion of the 5th Alliance against Trafficking in Persons Conference on Human Trafficking for Labour Exploitation/Forced and Bonded Labour: Prosecution of Offenders, Justice for Victims on 16-17 November 2006 in the Neuer Saal, Hofburg, Vienna.
