Croatia's decision to co-operate with ICTY welcomed by OSCE Chairman-in-Office
BUCHAREST 13 July 2001
BUCHAREST, 13 July 2001 (OSCE) - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana, welcomes the recent decision of the Croatian Government to co-operate with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
"We commend and support this decision of the Croatian Government, which is in line with its international commitments and represents a strong message regarding Croatia's attachment to European values", said Mr. Geoana. He called on the Croatian political forces and civil society to support the co-operative approach of the Government, contributing thus to the consolidation of democracy and the rule of law, as well as to the further integration of Croatia into European institutions and structures.
"The indictment of all those who committed war crimes is a matter of justice and should by no means be linked to their ethnic origin. Justice and not resentment will pave the way to the stability in south-eastern Europe and to a better life for the people living there", the Chairman-in-Office stated.
